But Im back now. Hopefully in time to get some great stuff out for the holidays.
I know cyber monday is coming up. I will just say... I will have a huge special listed only on my blog (redeemable in my etsy shop)
So... stay tuned!
Lots of Love-
Steph

Product Shots by blythehopesvintage.etsy.com

So I contacted blythehopesvintage a few weeks back... I found her through a wholesale order I did for hautecountryvintage. Her pictures are amazing. They got hautecountryvintage on the front page. So, I thought, what the heck... might as well ask.

Here's what came from it:

Simply Beautiful!

Etsy Featured Seller: Laura Caswell Studios

lauracaswellstudios.etsy.com

How Long have you been creating? And how long have you been selling?
I have been creating for as long as I can remember. As a child, the only thing that would help me to focus was drawing and coloring. I started selling my art 2 years ago at 2 local galleries in town. I had 15 paintings and all of them sold as well as a lot of prints. I decided to go to teachers college. Now, after I have finished all of my schooling I have decided to sell my work online as well as promote myself locally. I hope to be making more paintings this summer.

Do you consider yourself an artist or crafter?
I am more an artist than crafter. I still think that craftwork is art but I don't think my prints work in that category. I think there are many artforms such as cooking, gardening etc...that most people might not consider as art. Art is just showing your creativity!

Who has been your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is family and history. The idea behind my work is about integrating personal life experiences with heritage importance through the patterns of life and history. These works embrace the notion that out past and family's past has become a part of our present."Remember your history. To forget is to not belong."—Charlotte A. Black ElkIf you are asking about artists...I take ideas from a lot of artists but my work is a breed of its own.

Where do you see your etsy shop in the future?
I would love to sell my paintings online and start a t-shirt line. I hope I get featured as a "quit your day job" person but who knows. I just take it day by day and create as much as I can!!

What inspires your pieces?
My pieces are inspired by my family history, fairytales, life's beauty, my own hardships, imagination, music, colors, anything that I find interesting and I find a personal connection to.

Laura is a super talented new etsy seller. She's done a lot of research to make her store the best she can. All she needs now is our support and views! So check out her work. Be sure to tell your friends about her!

Does This look familiar?
Well, it should if you have been doing your homework! This is a smaller version of the Front Page Star: Dream in my shop. Doesnt it look amazing on this necklace?!

I did a search on etsy of INCROWD team members (Indiana Street Team) and found this amazing seller. The Carrie necklaces caught my eye. I went out on a limb and asked her if she would be willing to use my flowers in her necklaces. And the rest is history!

Lemon Chiffon- Doesnt it look good enough to eat?! It's perfect.

Erin is from the "big city". Close enough to personally deliver the flowers... maybe next time!
Hopefully there will be much more collabrating in the future for us!

Soon I will put up pictures of what comes from my trip to the store yesterday... until then, new items!!

Front Page Here I Come!

Are you ready for this?
It is a great day in the world of an Etsy seller when they are featured on the front page! My day was this past saturday. I received 1 sell, 15 shop hearts and tons of item hearts. Hopefully more people have discovered Renegades items.

Other news, I have listed a few new items. One has already sold. The cutest little bobbies. I call them Earth Day because they make me want to go out and save the world.

Hopefully I can figure out how to add this widget that shows me on the front page. Off to try it.

dreams

I know... 2 posts in a day. I am just showing off now.
but really... I have done a lot of soul searching lately. I realized I have been on auto pilot. I have been going about life as if I were just trying to get through the day. does anyone know what I am saying?
let's start with dreams and goals. I didn't have any for a long time. I think I was too scared to fail. well you don't know if you don't try. I also had tried to put everyone else in front of my own needs. so as a result of realizing this I have an action plan now. I am writing a business plan and taking actions toward meeting that plan. what have you done to get yourself jump started?
I am allowing myself to listen to music to decide what I like. I am redecorating my room in colors only I could love. I am setting my own routine. its scary. if I keep with it I think I will learn a lot about myself. only good things from here on out. it is bound to affect my creativity as well. who knows what I will be making next!

did you miss me?

I am sorry for being gone for so long. if I were to try to explain why I have been without internet it would take a while. I will just say I am back and connected.
I am blogging right now from my new palm treo. which means anywhere I get a spare moment I will be on the web blogging or tweeting or hanging out in etsy forums.
so the family left for colorado springs this morning. when they get back I promise to have pictures of the beautiful store where some renegades origionals now live.
on another note... has anyone noticed that etsy seems to be everywhere now? on page 118 of the april elle mag there are 3 pendants from sweetmaggie.etsy.com. and I was reading home companion and saw an article in there too. that can only be good news. I guess I need to start getting some new stuff up. keep on the look out!
check ya later

Feature Friday! (A Day Late) FunkyBlink

Featured Seller
Funky Blink!

Blinky is a colorful, happy & creative 26 year young designer trapped in a body of black-wearing, even more creative & just slightly older person. When she makes her beloved colorful jewelry she's wearing a red hood that her grandmother gave her.The red hood has not been tested as THAT-RED-HOOD, because Blinky thinks that sometimes it's better to believe - then you have all from life! Our Creature has two worlds - one is here, where she harvests sunrays and weaves them into her colorful creations... the other one is where she's traveling all the time with NEW-FRIENDS - in search of Morpheus - her beloved one.

So Usually, I will interview the Seller and ask questions about what her influence is and stuff like that... It's nice, but I feel like I can wing this one. FunkyBlink has become a buddy. Her shop is amazing!

Funky hosted a threadkiller on etsy. I started keeping up with it mearly to help out a friend. I quickly became addicted to the thought of having a pair of her earrings. I started checking the thread everyday! Now I am one of her biggest fans!

Her items are high fashion meets flayful fun. The color combos are mind blowing! Her creativity is huge. I just cant say enough about this super talented etsy seller. She's just starting out but the 2 sales she has have come quickly. Every day her pictures are more intreging and her jewelry more amazing and FUNKY!

And lastly... I just realized as I was picking pictures for this blog, that not only did I lose the threadkiller for free earrings, but the ones I was going to buy if I didnt win are the ones that the winner choose. Crap! What do I do now?

Well Whatever... I have many other items on my favorite FunkyBlink items list. I will just have to chose another one.

Check out her shop! http://funkyblink.etsy.com/
I guarantee you will find something you enjoy.

Etsy Featured Seller: EllaPhantePhashion

So, I know it isnt Friday... but Friday will be the start of my weekend Vaca. Going to Denver and roadtripping it back home with my brother and dad. I will be sure to take the camera along. I will have lots to show you guys. Consequently, today becomes Feature Thursday!

EllaPhantePhashion
The story of Ellaphante:
The name EllaPhante came from my obsession with elephants. An inside joke among friends lead to me collecting elephants and becoming known as " The elephant", " Huffilah', 'Heddaphant" and so on....so I created my elephant logo and named her Ms. Ella Phante!

How long have you been making the craft/art that you sell? What started your interest in it? How did you learn?
_ I've been making things my whole life, really. My mom is pretty crafty, and I was always watching her make things with her hands.I think I started sewing by hand around...age five I think. Monkey see monkey do, you know? I really got into it! I kept practicing, and Mom started letting me use her sewing machine when I was about ten. That's when the magic really happened. I was an awkward size and shape, clothes never fit me right, and I really didn't like a lot of what I had to wear. So I altered what I had or made something new from scratch...and just learned by trial and error. As for everything else I make, I pretty much learned all of that by trial and error as well...a girl can't have too many hobbies!

What made you decide to turn your art/craft into a business? What support or inspiration have you had along the way?
_Last year I decided to make my living from my art/craft skills.I have some health issues that were making it difficult to hold down a normal job, and I needed something I could be motivated to do and that would make me happy anyway. So I just dove in!I come form a long line of entrepeneurs and self-employers,so I had lots of help and experience with all the ins and outs of having a business.
As far as support and inspiration goes, my husband has been my biggest supporter and motivator.I couldn't do this without him. He supports us financially(so far my income is just paying the groceries, but I have high hopes!) as well as gives me honest critiques on my designs, lets me bounce ideas off of him,and generally is just inspiring in his own way. I've also gotten a lot of support from my parents and my in-laws, they buy me great fabric and supplies if they see something they know I'll like, they find me customers, and they even helped buy a lot of my equipment! And most importantly, they believe in me. They pretty much rock.

Do you have any other hobbies / interests?
OH yes. I play drums (not as much as I'd like),go to concerts , I read a LOT, I'm a gym rat...I love lifting weights! Weird, I know. I like being outside and active, running,hiking,swimming...all that jazz.Oh , and movie watching. That's a big one.Especially going to see them in the theater! And my Etsy shops pretty much show off all my other hobbies.

How long have you been selling on Etsy?
I've sold things here and there for a few years now, but I've only been seriously selling for a less than a year, and on Etsy since September '08 I believe.

Do you sell outside of Etsy? If so where?
Not right now..a few of my items had a short stint in a gift boutique/sewing repair shop downtown, where I also worked doing repairs in exchange for fabric and well, experience. She taught me a lot, but it was just time to move on.

What is your favorite way to promote your Etsy store?
_Doing blog interviews , of course! And the usual, flyers, business cards...that's about it.

Do you have a blog? If so what is your blog address, and what do you feature / write about?
I have a myspace...http://www.myspace.com/smurdypants
but I don't blog on it really. I plan to start a business blog or website eventually though!
Where do you hope to see your business / Etsy store in the future?
Where it is, only better. This is my life...I just hope it stays that way!

What is something that you want to make SURE you do in 2009?
I want to make sure I make time for the things that matter most.I'm going to be making a 700 mile move very soon, and I want to really stay in touch with the people here who matter to me!

What is the thing that you are most proud of?
Thing I have made? Probably this one bag/stuffed animal I made...it was custom ordered, and I was very sad to let him go...I named him Reginald. Check him out :http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=12370355

What do you wish you had more time for?
All of my many many hobbies...I wish I didn't have to eat or sleep so that I could devote a fair amount of time to all of them! Oh, and playing with my dog. I think he gets tired of watching me sew all the time.

What is your favorite part of the day?
I'm a night owl. Early evening is when I spend the most time with my hubby, and then after he is asleep I do most of my creating. It's such a peaceful time..I can really get a lot done...and for some reason my brain just goes into creative overdrive at night!

Feature Friday: Neat Things

Neatthings.etsy.com

Office Violations (I need these! I love the over decorated cubicle one!)

How long have you been making the craft/art that you sell? What started your interest in it? How did you learn?
Since I sprung from the womb. I had the fortunate circumstance of being born into a painfully smart assed family. Add a little style and you've got yourself some snarky paper goods.

What made you decide to turn your art/craft into a business? What support or inspiration have you had along the way?
Well, I was tired of living in a cardboard box behind the 7-11. I found a great deal of inspiration from the ants who swarmed every piece of candy that fell to the ground. Those little suckers really persevere.

Do you have any other hobbies / interests?

Yes. Collecting experience. And annoying people.

How long have you been selling on Etsy?
Actively, 6-8 months. Passively, 18 months.

Do you sell outside of Etsy? If so where?

Just my body. On the street corner.

What is your favorite way to promote your Etsy store?
Instigating.

Do you have a blog? If so what is your blog address, and what do you feature / write about?
Yes. freshneat.wordpress.com. I write about branding your business.

Where do you hope to see your business / Etsy store in the future?
Somehow, I can't manage to think past dinnertime.

What is something that you want to make SURE you do in 2009?
Continue to breathe.

What is the thing that you are most proud of?
Discovering that my annoying personality can generate revenue.

What do you wish you had more time for?

Travel.

What is your favorite part of the day?

I really like that window between 2:34 a.m. and 2:35 a.m. It's a magical minute.

Etsy Featured Seller: DanaLaymon

DanaLaymon got her first camera at 8 years old. The rest speaks for its self!

How long have you been making the craft/art that you sell? What started your interest in it? How did you learn?

I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember. My mom was always into photography. I remember I got my first camera at Disney World when I was probably 8. I really became serious about it when I went to college and was able to take classes 6 years ago. I took classes where I live in Wilmington and I also went to summer school at Parsons School of Design in NY. But the best way to learn is practice practice.

What made you decide to turn your art/craft into a business? What support or inspiration have you had along the way?

I really started making money when I did an internship in college for a videography company and they decided to add me on as their photographer after my internship. I was doing weddings and realized I could really do this for a living. My husband always supported me from the beginning and I really love him for that because it's not always easy letting me spend money on the equipment i need :) And I just found photographers who had great work from all over the place and began to set a high bar for myself because I want to achieve the level they have. I definately have a long way to go though. I love one photographer from Wilmington who did our wedding and she will always be my favorite!

Do you have any other hobbies / interests?

hmmm hobbies, where do i begin? I love sports, esp. tennis and working out. I just got a little golden puppy so I enjoy taking her to the beach and playing around and doing some surf photography which I will have up hopefully this month. I love working on my house, updating it, decorating, and renovating. I'm also very involved in my church and love my family there. And I love traveling with my husband and family. I'm actually heading to Mexico this Saturday so I'm excited for a vacation!

How long have you been selling on Etsy?

I'm a newbie to Etsy. Hi, my name is Dana and I'm a newbie. I just opened my shop at the end of January this year. No sales yet so you could be the first! :)

Do you sell outside of Etsy? If so where?

I don't sell outside of Etsy. I do a couple of art shows a year but that's about it. I'm still recouping from the last one.

What is your favorite way to promote your Etsy store?

hmmm I've really searched on Etsy to see how people are making sales and so far I've set up a twitter account, my own website (hope to be done with it next month), my husband's facebook account ( i refuse to get my own, I'd be easily addicted) and i work for a large company so I rely a lot on word of mouth. oh i also have some work hanging in shops around Wilmington.

Do you have a blog? If so what is your blog address, and what do you feature / write about?

oh yeah and my blog- it's not a blog per se, i just use it for my website to keep a collection of pictures I like and think are interesting. The address is http://www.danalaymon.blogspot.com/.

Where do you hope to see your business / Etsy store in the future?

my dream? to be able to quit my day job and play on Etsy all day! I would love to make a full time business out of it. Really because that would mean people really enjoy my pictures as much as I do.

What is something that you want to make SURE you do in 2009?

like a resolution? I'm really bad at goals. I would say to stay in the profit margin ;) Because right now it's not lookin' so good. Like I said my husband is very understanding.

What is the thing that you are most proud of?

my marriage and my family- i love them so much! What do you wish you had more time for? prayer and time with the Lord

What is your favorite part of the day?

getting to go home to see my hubby and work towards my dream job

So go check out DanaLaymon on etsy today! http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6574301 and tell her Renegades sent you!

Blog Feature!

Yesterday was a good day for Renegades!
I made it into a treasury! I very beautiful one.

And then I found out that I was the feature in a blog!
http://mrsfatface.blogspot.com/

It was so much fun answering all of the questions. I guess I dont talk much about myself and why I do what I do because that's all people know of me. They dont think about when I first started crafting and what inspires me because most people are of the firm belief that I came out with a pair of knitting needles...

My dad really is my biggest inspiration. He has always pushed me... Even when I didnt want to be pushed. Now I push myself. I'm so lucky to have him! and 7 months non-smoking (congrats Dad!) so now i get even more time with him.

CHECK OUT THE AWESOME FEATURES TODAY!! The Treasury and the Blog!

I made it into a treasury!!

Photo Controversy

I have been reading alot about making a style for yourself... letting your self shine through your photos and work. So, I took about a million pictures last night. Edited them this morning.
I decided to use an artsy photo for the first photo on a few listings...
Should I not do that?
I have had people tell me that I shouldnt...
But I like it...
What do you think?

Baby Brother's Car Wreck!

http://pal-item.com/article/20090205/NEWS01/902050312/1008

Student injured in crash with bus
PALLADIUM-ITEM • February 5, 2009
Post a Comment

A seat belt was credited with saving Hagerstown High School student Benjamin Wysong from more serious injuries Wednesday.
He was knocked out briefly and taken to Reid Hospital after his car slid sideways into a school bus at Teetor Road and Indiana 38 at about 9 a.m., according to a report from the Indiana State Police post in Connersville.
He was treated and released, said David Hunt, a supervisor for the hospital.
No one was hurt on the bus that was carrying three students and an aide. Wysong's Chevrolet Malibu slid on ice as he was traveling east.
The 16-year-old from Greens Fork also had cuts to a hand. "(He) had his seat belt on, which prevented serious injuries," Senior Trooper David Whitinger said in his report.
The bus being driven by Mary McGrew, 57, slowed before being struck on the front. The car spun into a ditch.
The students were checked at the scene and then transported to school by another bus after parents were notified.
Damage estimates are $8,000 for the car and $4,000 for the bus. The road was blocked and traffic rerouted around the accident scene for more than an hour.

I thought I would share some pictures of my babies. I will have to get some new ones, but just look at thoes faces!!

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Today I am going to take a break from talking about Etsy and talk about Stephy... pssshhh That's Funny! So, my name is Stephanee... Family Calls me Stephy and friends call me Steph or Blondie.
I have always been creating something. My favorite Christmas gifts when I was a kid were thoes craft kits that came with everything you needed to make friendship bracelets or candles. I taught myself to knit, an retired neighbor taught me to sew. I craft when I am stressed out or sick or bored or... basically any time I can. My only hang up right now is space. I just wish I could have a space where I could properly organize my craft supplies and leave them out overnight if I wanted to... When you craft on the coffee table or dining room table you cant exactly do that. OH WELL! Maybe someday.

10 Things about me (as they relate to crafting and my style)
1.) My favorite Color is Blue, My favorite color to craft with is Pink
2.) I live in Indiana. It's calm, peaceful and boring. But I wouldnt have it any other way.
3.) Inspiration comes from... I can say I am inspired by lots of things, but you probably wouldnt see it in my pieces. I tend to only make items I would personally wear. I think that limits me.
4.) Family is the most important thing to me. All of them... the good, the bad and the ugly.
5.) The only thing that I like doing more than crafting is watching movies. Just when I thought I had seen all of the movies I want to see... I discovered Netflix!
6.) I dont know if I am Republican or Democrat. I just dont know!
7.) My baby brother is in the Army. He's getting ready to be deployed to Afghanistan. It scares me that I cant protect him anymore.
8.) My favorite Sport to play is Bowling. My favorite sport to watch is Football.
9.) I collect newspapers that depict important events in my lifetime. I have Clinton's impeachment, Obamas Inaguration and Earnhardt's Death.
10.) I am determined to succeed!

*Side note: I did list new items on etsy today! http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5075152

Photography

For me, the #1 reason I dont blog more... the reason my etsy shop isnt more sucessful... the source of all of life's problems is because I can't get good photos.

WHY?! I mean I took 2 years of photography in high school, Sr. photo editor in yearbook and newspaper. I actually worked for a real freaking newspaper... but nothing. Why cant I apply any of that to pictures of my work?

Okay, enough of that! So, I borrowed my brothers awesome Kodak Z710 yesterday. I am going to take a million freaking pictures if I have to.

How-To Make a light box:

How-To Take better pictures:
http://www.sparkplugging.com/craft-boom/how-to-take-and-edit-professional-photos-of-your-craft-products/

So... I will be posting very soon... probably wednesday with new and hopefully improved pictures.

On a much brighter note: I want to mention JohnnyConflict. I recently purchased a new shop "makeover" from http://johnnyconflict.etsy.com. You can check it out in full glory at my shop http://renegades.etsy.com . Its amazing!

Branching Out!

This is my first real blogging attempt and my first real blog. I feel like a big girl.

My plan is to share my creative attempts and HOPEFULLY get feed back on how to make it into a business. I am sick of the 9 to 5 cubicle hell! =) I am going to make this work. I have to.

So... just for kicks I am going to share the few items I made for V-Day to list on Etsy this year.

So! I need people to read and help a poor little girl make her dreams of crafting and networking all day come true! Let me know what you think or what I can do to make things better... or any advise.

Thanks!
